HISTORY

When we started our journey in a small plasterboard warehouse on the Hume Highway at Lansvale in 2002, our founder set himself a simple formula for success: “promise and deliver”. Despite growth and change, this customer-focused approach remains the essence of the Hume spirit today.

Plasterboard beginnings

Hume started out as an Australian Plasterboard Company (APC) franchisee store, with three employees, selling BGC Plasterboard at Lansvale. Hume acquired a premises at Yennora, and consolidated a reputation as the best new plasterboard distributor in the business.

In 2007, Hume became a BGC Plasterboard franchisee, commencing a long period of growth. Our Lakemba store opened in 2008 and the business became a distributor of USG Boral plasterboard, changing our trading name to Plasterboard Trade Centre (PTC).

Hume expands in NSW and Victoria

In 2010, Hume opened operations in Victoria at Sunshine West in Melbourne, and our Alexandria store opened in Sydney. Pymble store opened in 2011 and by 2014 we had reached 100 employees under the trading name Australia Building Centre, reflecting the diversifying nature of our business.

Our Victorian operations expanded in 2013 with the opening of a new Melbourne headquarters at Preston and in December 2014, Hume opened a new flagship national headquarters at South Granville in Sydney.

Hume sponsored the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs NRL team in 2016/17, and our distinctive Hume “H” became a familiar sight for NRL fans tuning in to watch Bulldogs games.

Hume Building Products

In 2017, Hume became “Hume Building Products” with a growing commercial product range in NSW including cladding, fibre cement, insulation, doors, skylights and timber products.

In 2018, Hume opened its newest store at Prestons in greater western Sydney, bringing the store total to nine nationally, with over 230 staff.

Architectural Solutions Provider

In 2020, Hume’s national headquarters returned to our newly renovated Yennora warehouses, and in 2021 South Granville store was relocated to the expanded premises.

Our new Yennora headquarters offers an advanced layout design, with undercover loading areas, and a large walk-in retail store and product showroom.

It is home to the Hume Commercial team, which supplies builders, architects and developers with a wide range of solutions for residential, commercial, industrial or repair and remodelling projects including Kitchens and Bathrooms.

The Hume Architectural team is also now based at Hume Yennora, ready to assist architects, builders and developers with a range of leading brand facade products and architectural solutions from around the world.
